The concept behind City Scoot is to create a vehicle that can carry two people with light luggage through a congested city environment quickly, safely, in comfort and with zero emissions, while escaping any congestion charges.

It is an electrically powered, fully enclosed two wheeled vehicle. It has two electrically operated retractable outrigger wheels. These are lowered automatically as the vehicle slows to a halt. They are linked to a gyroscopic balancer to ensure that the vehicle is stabilised in a level position when stood, even on uneven ground. Once stood the vehicle has four wheels on the ground making access and egress easy and safe. Once the vehicle moves away the outrigger wheels are retracted automatically, returning the vehicle to two wheels. With the outrigger wheels deployed the vehicle can be driven in reverse to a limited 3mph.to assist parking.

Access is via pantograph style sliding doors, one on each side, that open up flush to the body making access easy in confined spaces. The doors have opening side windows and are lockable. There is also access to the rear luggage compartment via a rear door.

The beauty of travelling in an enclosed vehicle means that the occupants can wear everyday clothing and there is no legal requirement to wear a helmet. You don’t need to be a motorcyclist to enjoy riding the City Scoot, and you don’t need to carry two sets of clothing everywhere you go. The vehicle has been designed from the outset to be as easy to operate as possible, using automated systems wherever possible. You just climb in, a remote key fob in your pocket activates the vehicle and you just twist the throttle on the handlebars and away you go. The vehicle has a CVT gearbox linked to the 50 hp electric motor so gear changing is automatic.

The electric motor is powered by a battery pack containing four 12 volt lithium ion batteries, giving a maximum of 48 volts per battery pack. These can be easily removed to recharge or swapped for fully charged ones. The vehicle can carry up to three packs and the driver can switch from one pack to the other whilst driving by the flick of a switch. The range on a fully charged pack is around 60 miles with a top speed of 65 mph. It can also be used in bus lanes and cycle lanes up to 15mph.

The vehicles chassis is made from tubular stainless steel and is immensely strong but light. It is corrosion free and guaranteed for the life of the vehicle. The body panels are formed from composite material. The main structure is a strong one piece mould, The doors have a stainless tubular frame over laid with composite panels, increasing strength and helping to reduce side the effects of a side impact.

The vehicle is no wider than a medium sized motorcycle so it can cut through standing traffic easily, cutting journey times dramatically whilst being 100% green.

It can be driven without a passenger on a full UK car license.

THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE

Stepping into the City Scoot the driver is greated with a comfortable up and down and forward and aft adjustable vinyl covered seat complete with seat belt. The floor has an anti slip, easy clean finish in a choice of colours. Once seated the driving and system controls are all mounted on the handle bars. There is a twist grip throttle and front brake lever on the right with the rear brake lever on the left side. The indicators, light switch, horn, housings are also located on handle bars. In the centre is a multifunction TFT screen which displays speed, battery condition, range, together with a number of warning lights which monitor the vehicles electrical system.

The vehicle also has a tilt assist function, operated via left and right buttons on the handle bars. Once either button is pressed the vehicle is tilted 5 degrees left or right via the outrigger wheels helping the vehicle set off into a left or right turn. This is especially helpful setting off from traffic lights into a tight turn.

The vehicle is automatically activated via a coded key fob that the driver carries. It activates via a distance sensor so that it unlocks and activates the electrical systems as the driver approaches. As the driver steps out of the vehicle and moves away it automatically shuts down these systems. The driver simply turns the throttle and the vehicle moves away, retracting the outrigger wheels automatically.

The front suspension is via conventional telescopic forks which are damped to suit the weight of the vehicle. Hydraulic disc brakes are fitted to both front and rear wheels.

The CVT gearbox utilises the torque of the electric motor changing gear ratios automatically to suit the load on the motor, helping to reduce the motors revolutions which in turn helps extend the battery pack range. The vehicle can also be driven in reverse to a limited speed.

The driver has a built in USB charging port, WI-FI connectivity, phone holder, rear reversing camera, air conditioning / heating, side impact protection, windscreen demist and wiper, interior lights, opening side windows and speakers which can be linked to the drivers mobile phone.The driver / rider has a Google MPR screen for destinations

THE PASSENGER EXPERIENCE

The rear passenger cabin has the same seat with seat belt as the driver but fixed with similar quality interior finishes. There is a fold down table as standard with a USB port adjacent WI-FI connectivity and interior / reading light. A sealed acrylic bulkhead separates the driver from the passenger area, especially important in these Covid times. An intercom system allows the passenger and driver to talk to each other.

The rear cabin has a separate air conditioning / heating system which can be controlled from the rear area.

The doors either side have side impact protection and large opening windows helping the space feel larger and more open than at first glance.

The rear suspension is coil sprung and damped helping give a smooth ride.

The City Scoot design is a very versatile platform and can be easily adapted to suit other uses.

CABBI SCOOT

Cabbi Scoot is a modified version of City Scoot. The aim here being to create a single occupancy urban taxi. As the majority of city taxi journeys involve taking a person to one destination within a four mile radius, Cabbi Scoot makes total sense! The ability to slip through congested streets past all the stationary traffic, always being at the front of the queue, in a totally green mode of transport in comfort is a unique and exciting proposition.

The vehicle retains all the features and benefits of the City Scoot and offers taxi owners be it fleet or individual operators a great opportunity to offer the passenger a new and refreshing experience.
